ˇ@ˇ@TAIPEI, Taiwan ˇV January. 13, 2008 ˇV Items Technologies Inc., a pioneer in developing industry-first video multimedia
ˇ@ˇ@solutions sold under the Items brand, has been granted software and hardware patents for their Multiple Streaming
ˇ@ˇ@Technology by the Taiwan Intellectual Property Office.
The hardware patent covers the use of a multiple TV signal
ˇ@ˇ@processor to simultaneously receive analog TV/video signals and/or digital TV signals and then transmitting the decoded
ˇ@ˇ@signal through a PC interface for playback. This way analog and digital TV programs may be played simultaneously.
ˇ@ˇ@The software patent then covers the use of multiple interfaces to separately receive digital and analog television signals
ˇ@ˇ@and the sending of these signals to a tuner, allowing for simultaneous reception of these signals for saving or for playback.
ˇ@ˇ@Digital TV: The future of multimedia broadcasts
ˇ@ˇ@Television with DVD quality video, rich stereo sound, and static free reception all available for free through the
ˇ@ˇ@airwaves ˇV sounds impossible, right? Digital TV offers all of these advantages over analog TV as well as EPG schedule
ˇ@ˇ@information, multiple audio streams and closed captioning/subtitles, and with the recent push for digital TV, more and more
ˇ@ˇ@channels are appearing in cities across the nation. But in order to access this free content, one must either purchase a digital
ˇ@ˇ@TV or a set top box, both of which can cost hundreds to thousands of dollars.
ˇ@ˇ@Items provides another way: USB 2.0 digital TV
tuners for your desktop or laptop PC. Besides offering a much more economical
ˇ@ˇ@route, these TV tuners leverage the power of
the PC, giving customers extra functionality such as PVR time-shifting and
ˇ@ˇ@scheduled recording of shows to the hard drive.
ˇ@ˇ@By using the USB 2.0 interface, users can easily install the TV tuner by simply connecting it to an available port. The units are
ˇ@ˇ@also extremely compact, making it ideal for laptop users. Items USB 2.0 digital TV tuners are available for ATSC and DVB-T
ˇ@ˇ@standards, and come in a variety of models, including hybrid models that also provide analog TV reception.
ˇ@ˇ@ExpressCard: The
next-generation laptop interface
ˇ@ˇ@The recently introduced ExpressCard format is a next generation interface for laptop PCs,
designed to replace the existing
ˇ@ˇ@PCMCIA and CardBus standards. It offers hosts a compact form factor, hot-swappability, and
both USB 2.0 and PCI Express
ˇ@ˇ@interfaces. This PCI Express interface is its major advantage - it offers more than 5 times the bandwidth of the PCI or CardBus
ˇ@ˇ@interface.
ˇ@ˇ@True to form, Items has developed TV cards that utilize all the benefits of the ExpressCard format. Unlike competitors that have
ˇ@ˇ@raced to be the first on the market by using the ExpressCardˇ¦s USB interface, Itemsˇ¦s solutions use the massive bandwidth of
ˇ@ˇ@the PCI Express interface to provide multi-stream TV solutions that are currently unmatched.
